1. Collagenoses and Connective Tissue Diseases

  • Flare-ups of systemic diseases, notably:

    • Systemic lupus erythematosus

    • Vasculitis

    • Polymyositis

    • Visceral sarcoidosis

2. Dermatological

  • Severe autoimmune blistering dermatoses (pemphigus, bullous pemphigoid)

  • Severe forms of infantile hemangiomas

  • Certain forms of lichen planus

  • Certain acute urticarias

  • Severe neutrophilic dermatoses

3. Digestive

  • Flare-ups of:

    • Ulcerative colitis

    • Crohn’s disease

  • Chronic active autoimmune hepatitis (with or without cirrhosis)

  • Severe acute alcoholic hepatitis, histologically confirmed

4. Endocrine

  • Severe subacute thyroiditis (De Quervain)

  • Certain hypercalcemias

5. Hematological

  • Severe immune thrombocytopenic purpura

  • Autoimmune hemolytic anemias

  • In combination with various chemotherapies for lymphoid malignant hematopathies

  • Chronic erythroblastopenias, acquired or congenital

6. Infectious

  • Tuberculous pericarditis and severe life-threatening forms of tuberculosis

  • Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia with severe hypoxia

7. Neoplastic

  • Antiemetic treatment during antineoplastic chemotherapy

  • Edematous and inflammatory flare associated with antineoplastic treatments (radiotherapy and chemotherapy)

8. Nephrological

  • Minimal change nephrotic syndrome

  • Primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis nephrotic syndrome

  • Stage III and IV lupus nephropathy

  • Intrarenal granulomatous sarcoidosis

  • Vasculitis with renal involvement

  • Primary extracapillary glomerulonephritis

9. Neurological

  • Myasthenia

  • Tumor-related cerebral edema

  • Chronic idiopathic inflammatory polyradiculoneuritis

  • Infantile spasms (West syndrome)

  • Lennox-Gastaut syndrome

  • Relapsing multiple sclerosis, following intravenous corticosteroid therapy

10. Ophthalmological

  • Severe anterior and posterior uveitis

  • Edematous exophthalmos

  • Certain optic neuropathies, following intravenous corticosteroid therapy

    • (Oral therapy is not recommended as first-line in this indication)

11. ENT

  • Certain serous otitis

  • Nasosinusal polyposis

  • Certain acute or chronic sinusitis

  • Seasonal allergic rhinitis, short-term treatment

  • Acute stridulous laryngitis (subglottic laryngitis) in children

12. Respiratory

  • Persistent asthma (preferably short-term if inhaled high-dose therapy fails)

  • Asthma exacerbations, especially severe acute asthma

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (evaluation of reversibility of obstructive syndrome)

  • Progressive sarcoidosis

  • Diffuse interstitial pulmonary fibrosis

13. Rheumatological

  • Rheumatoid arthritis and certain polyarthritis

  • Polymyalgia rheumatica and Horton’s disease

  • Acute rheumatic fever

  • Severe and refractory cervicobrachial neuralgia

14. Organ and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

  • Prophylaxis or treatment of graft rejection

  • Prophylaxis or treatment of graft-versus-host disease
